Letting people drop their sh*t

AT&T x Samsung Galaxy

AT&T held a rare network exclusive, as the only carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. That gave the brand a meaningful opening to move beyond standard launch messaging and speak to what people actually cared about. The early provocation was intentionally disruptive, leaning into the idea of trading in smashed phones. While that execution was ultimately vetoed, it pushed us toward a more powerful truth.

We uncovered an insight hiding in plain sight: a surprisingly large number of people were already walking around with cracked screens and battered devices. This wasn’t a niche audience or a reckless outlier. It was everyday users who had simply fumbled their phones. The opportunity was to relieve the quiet anxiety people felt about damaging their devices and position the S7 Active as the antidote. A phone you didn’t have to baby, available only at AT&T.

Once the idea landed, the focus shifted to making the work native to how people actually discover and engage with content. The concept was designed to be social, searchable, and platform-specific, allowing AT&T to show up in a more modern, culturally fluent way while subtly challenging its own category conventions.
